Mysuru and Kodagu both celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas.
On Wednesday, the city commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas,
celebrating India's triumph over Pakistan in the Kargil War, and paid respect
to those who lost their lives fighting.
MLC C.N. Manje Gowda attended a program that was hosted by
the Rotary Club of Heritage Mysore and the district chapter of the Akhil
Karnataka Ex-Servicemen's Association.
Col. R.R. Menon, Commandant, NCC Group Head Quarters,
Mysuru, launched off a bike rally that included around 150 people to
commemorate the occasion. The rally traveled through the city's major
thoroughfares.
Ex-servicemen from the city who took part in the Kargil war
were also honored during a ceremony held at a chicken farm. There was also MLA
T.S. Srivatsa and K.P. Diwakar, president of the Ex-Servicemen's Association.
Kargil Vijay Diwas was also observed by Yuva Bharat members
at Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Circle.
Along with members of the general public, a sizable number of former service members and their families attended Kargil Vijay Diwas in the neighboring district of Kodagu. At the General Thimayya Memorial Museum in Madikeri, where the main event took place, Minister N.S. Boseraju, district in charge, paid tribute to the martyrs.
Manthar Gowda, a Madikeri MLA, promised to
make every effort to fulfill a long-standing request of the district's
ex-servicemen: the construction of a community hall.
According to the MLA, the territory contains more than 5,000 ex-servicemen, making a community hall essential. He declared that it was important to remember the soldiers who gave their lives while defending the nation, and Kargil Vijay Diwas was one such occasion.
Girish Kiggalu, an
ex-serviceman who was honored at the event, remembered how the Indian soldiers
defeated the Pakistani army and the adversary forces.
